This week rumours of two new Honda 650’s to join the range have been simmering away. Among the two new bikes is a new incarnation of the Honda Hornet that has proved popular across Europe and America in recent years. The director of the motorcycle division of Honda France Fabrice Recoque said to French magazine Moto Revue, that Honda may introduce two new middleweight models, most likely around 650cc.
Although Recoque said very little about the two new bikes, he did mention that one of them could possibly be an updated version of the middleweight Hornet.
"Our roadster strategy will be established in two phases," he said. "Medium-term we will have a new bike which will be about 650 cc and that will be presented in the coming months. I cannot say more about this. That bike will be followed by another new bike, this one will be more volume-oriented and we have already started work on it, but it's not for now."
When asked if the bikes were coming to rival the likes of the Yamaha MT-07, Recoque explained that the bikes would be ‘different, both aesthetically and in pricing.
"Our strategy will not be to attack the MT-07 with the same style or a similar price. We will propose a very different motorcycle with a unique style and very different positioning. It will probably be a bit more expensive but also very different and slightly off the competition."
We can expe ct to see these bikes on Honda’s stand at this years’ EICMA show in Milan in November, most likely as close to production prototypes for a 2019 release.
