Honda Monkey confirmed for 2018

Honda Monkey confirmed for 2018

The Honda Monkey first hit the streets back in 1961, having been developed for an amusement park in Tokyo, Tama Tech. The child’s playtime bike was originally developed with a 49cc engine and proved so popular that Honda further developed it into a road going bike, and exported it to America and Europe in 1963. It had 5-inch diameter rigidly-mounted wheels, folding handlebars and a distinctive chrome fuel tank.

The bike had many instantly likeable ‘cute’ qualities thanks to its tiny dimensions and easily manageable light weight. These qualities made it tonnes of fun around town and by 1969, the wheels has been increased to 8 inches and it was given detachable forks, allowing it to fit into the boot of a smaller car.

By 1978 the Monkey was in its prime time. The bike had been remodelled with a teardrop style fuel tank and was now incredibly popular with RV drivers. The bike offered RV drivers a great way to nip about when they’d parked up. Now the little bike had cemented its place into the hearts and lives of millions, giving riders of their first experience a way to learn with a 3 speed gear box and centrifugal clutch. The bike was easy to ride and require no prior riding experience to operate.

These fun qualities gave the recent Monkey concept a large boost in popularity among the public, with its classically chunky tyres, tiny fuel tank and large bouncy seat. Now it’s going to be hitting the streets once more as Honda confirm the bikes production.
